Santa Cruz de Tenerife, March 2017.- The Hotel Bahía del Duque (www.bahia-duque.com), company owned by Compañía de las Islas Occidentales (www.cio-company.com), will switch off its lights on the 25th of March between 20:30h and 21:30h to join the initiative “Earth Hour” promoted by WWF.
This is the 8th consecutive year the Hotel joins in this environmental event, which this year coincides with the celebration of the “International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development”, where Bahía del Duque will carry out different events within its Sustainability plan.
The Hotel takes part in this event by switching off a large portion of its lights in the three reception areas, spa, restaurants and communal areas, which will be lit by candles, lanterns and torches. They will also enliven the event with a dance and fire show.
Bahía del Duque is joining 114 companies, 224 cities and 97 Spanish entities who are participating in this global movement, - that in 2017 is celebrating a decade of climate action, and has the slogan “This Earth Hour Shine a Light on Climate Change”, with the aim of adding their voice to the defence of the environment through the symbolic gesture of switching off lights for one hour.
In the words of Mónica Rumeu, Director of Sustainability of CIO, “We, as well as our customers, have become increasingly more demanding in terms of sustainability, which is why we don’t hesitate to join initiatives such as this one. This project has become a part of our commitment towards the environment, especially because we are aware that the fight against climate change involves all of us and CIO wants to do its bit to help combat it”.
