Santa Cruz de Tenerife, April 2017.- The Hotel Bahía del Duque (www.bahia-duque.com), company owned by Compañía de las Islas Occidentales (CIO) (www.cio-company.com), has renewed its Travelife Gold certification, after successfully passing the rigorous audit, which this international sustainability certification system carries out in companies of the tourism sector interested in being a part of the Travelife Collection.
Launched in 2007, the Travelife Sustainability System is a practical tool for tourism establishments, helping supervise and manage its impact in the area of sustainability. Travelife auditors visit the hotels and conduct an exhaustive analysis where they evaluate different aspects, such as company policies (quality assurance, environment, health and safety…); legislation; communication; human resources; the environment (energy, water, light, waste); protection of the establishments’ surroundings, human rights; and engagement with the local community.
“Quality awards like Travelife Gold act as a guarantee for our guests, they certify that the Bahía del Duque is an establishment that respects people, the environment and the cultural aspects that surround it”, states Mónica Rumeu, Director of Sustainability of CIO.
One of the valued aspects by Travelife auditors in granting Bahía del Duque the renewal of the certification, was its support of various NGO’s and Associations, and the transmission of the traditional values of Canarian culture, reflected in the hotels architecture, gastronomy, hospitality and the staff uniforms.
They have also taken into account the company's Human Resource policy based on transparency and the promotion of diversity in the workplace as a guarantee against social exclusion. In regards to the protection of the environment, the Hotel has implemented strategies to minimize the use of water and energy, thus creating a more sustainable management and with a smaller impact, on the environment.
