An interview with Pascua Ortega
Six questions for Pascua Ortega
D.Q.: Really, how do you define Pascua Ortega? Do you consider yourself an interior designer, a decorator, a visionary…
P.O.: To be honest, where I feel most comfortable is in the middle of a construction site, with my helmet on.
D.Q.: Is it possible to still get excited about a project after having completed so many? And if so, what were you aiming to achieve in the Hotel Bahía del Duque?
P.O.: Every project I start feels like the first one, and not the last one, of course. And every new challenge creates different emotions. In the Bahía the aim was to maintain the existing glamour, at the same time refreshing it to fit today’s trends.
D.Q.: In case of the decoration of the Villas we feel that you reinvented that concept. How did you tackle it?
P.O.: There are no universal answers, you just need to know the context, want to enjoy yourself, have a little bit of intuition – and a pinch of magic.
D.Q.: What are the problems you have to face when you decorate a space which is going to be used intimately by so many different people?
P.O.: The problems aren’t any different than those you have to face when dealing with individual spaces. You need to use the common factor.
D.Q.: The colours, textures and light, what significance do they have in your projects? What impact have they had in the Villas?
P.O.: Well, I think my work focuses exactly on that. Space, function, texture, colours, light…
D.Q.: The first project you realised for the hotel was the refurbishment of the Casas Ducales. Was it difficult to reinvent a space with such a defined character? Were you faced by any difficulties? Are you satisfied with the result?
P.O.: I’ve stayed here many nights and as a guest I feel delighted.
